Disasterous load of play - With more of an eye on how many raked hands and points I was building I've blown a massive hole in my bankroll only to be 63% towards getting a $44 bonus - great maths on my part ... blow $50 to not get $44 ... dumb n ass spring to mind ... almost a predicting my own downfall I'd written an article for the site about not playing over your bankroll to earn bonus money ... at least I can laugh at my own folly.

After a nice healthly start back, I came down to earth with a bump. Admittedly I'm playing way beyond my bankroll (tut tut) in order to see if I can get the monthly bonus qualified in time but the last sitting was a disaster. I got on tilt after getting a bit of a bad beat and started playing everything over aggressive. At the end of it I'm still quite a way off qualifiying for the $44 bonus - Interpoker have made it harder to get the bonuses and not sure I'm that keen on playing the site 24/7 and then faffing around to cashout & redeposit every month.

So having been away from online poker for a few days due to a snowboarding trip, I decide to get a couple of hours in on the last day before the inevitable beery session in the bar. The tournie proved to be good game but the cash games went a bit sour - I'd left the first game doubled up and was playing fine.

At the second table I got dealt AA and put in a decent raise in late position to cut out the competition, got re-raised by one player on the BB and re-raised him again all-in, so about $12 and he called for all his money as we had similar stacks - he turned over K 10 off which was a bit mad IMHO - then the miracle flop turned him a made straight and I was beat. I honestly dont see how he raised & called all his money with it but he did.

Having played non to well in the first couple of cash games I tried out a tournie. Managing to get caught out making the low end of a straight on the turn and him making the high end on the river. Back to cash I build up fairly quickly and easily to double my stake up to 40+ and then all goes pete tong. So I've managed to dump a load of money in double quick time to end up 31 cents short of even.

Successful night running the two freeroll tournies at Poker.com and UltimateBet - I did alot better than expected, finishing 15th out of 165 entries at Poker.com $100 freeroll (which ment I picked up a whole $1 which I will try to gamble wisely). Rather embarassingly I ended up winning the $50 freeroll at UltimateBet clawing back $20 of the prize money I'd put up. I was planning to fall on my sword after making the final table through 31 entries but got carried away - then I didn't seem to be able to go wrong when the flop was hitting just about any cards I stuck with. The guys were really sporting and insisted I play it out rather than throwing it - which was nice - very odd experience feeling bad about winning. Anyway I'm gona send 2nd, 3rd & 4th a 4kingpoker baseball cap each.

We all see it and we all get bad beats - pick yourself up, chill out and forget that hand - concentrate on the next one - if its duff then fold it.
Dont screw yourself up over it and dont play like a moron for the next 10 minutes cashing up and throwing away your money just because someone got lucky.
And dont bitch about it to them online - if the table is lose which is a good thing you dont want someone who just got lucky re-thinking his game 'cos you told him he was a retard. Sometimes they get lucky - congratulate him on his luck and that way he'll call you next time - when you got him beat

Day 179 ... 4kingpoker tour tournies tonight ...

Looking forward to the online tournies tonight - always a bit of a juggling contest in the first one trying to play and organise the next one but after Friday nights fiasco I need to get my head down and not mess about.

So Friday was great fun but ultimately as predicted I lost money - not really a surprise given that I'd already posted here sometime last week the plan was to get tanked up (for me anywhere past 1 pint is the danger zone) and lose some money.

Well I think I said I could win tanked up - but also predicted I wouldn't - and at the end of the day it was kind of fun sitting there being like a naughty kid in class playing and doing all the things you know are wrong - the night got off to a great start when i knocked a glass of red off the end of the table on my first deal, managed to down a bottle of wine and a whole can of larger (by which time I was sure to be in trouble) and spent the last hour holding and playing cards when I rather of been holding my head over the toilet.

So played badly but did get beat on a couple of mares - hit 2pair with K7 rimmer turns over KK.
The rest was a bit of a blurr of failed bullying and wastefully trying to push people off hands - although I did manage to play 24off, 4Koff and 84off as automatic bluff hands with some success ultimately deciding this was a more interesting approach and that after combining clumsyness, the 13th & friday I was going home broke anyway I may as well go for it - they always say there is no such thing as a failed bluff.

Plus I must mention at this point that all the players at the home game are not only stunningly good looking lady magnets but also expert poker players. (this sentence was brought to you by dougal adsents)

Anyway just in case anyone else is actually reading this, we tried out a tournie format which while interesting to play and to watch, but does tend to drag and my place isn't really the most spacious or luxurious place to relax while not playing so after a couple of hours we got back to the cash game. Which wasn't wholy successful for me but it could have been worse.

Dont even think about playing poker if you not really in the mood. Dont play if your thinking more about your money than the cards in front of you. Take a break if your not playing well. Dont try to squeeze in a session - if your thinking about work / got to walk the dog / make an appointment - leave the cards for another time - youve probably just saved a load of your bankroll - just as good as a win

So your doing ok in the low stakes games - why not head up a level or two? If your finding fish and making money moving up too soon could be costly, your suddenly gona find your shark food and that nice little margin you've built up will be gone - remember poker is one long game not just one session or one hand - you need to have sufficient to balance the fluctuations in your bankroll

There's no doubt I need to adapt my play for the evenings v daytime play. Daytime players actually respect a 3x pot raise instead of seeing this as an invitation to enter into a 4 way all-in ambush.

I've also signed up to Interpoker & deposited $44 for this months ration - nice 100% bonus pending and we'll see how easy it is to clear. The site is supposed to be quite loose, but there aren't any micro limits so I'm going to have to be very careful how I go.
